It is a bad day, be wary, when the music isn’t on
a sign that my mood can’t be turned with a song…
Phew, don’t worry – I’m cool…yesterday afternoon…yeah, not so much.
I found out the PC that I’d worked on last weekend is toast again due to inattentive computing – namely the user fell prey to a scam…again. I cursed loudly, I did, and for pretty much the whole ride home – radio off.
I was mad, flat out. Mad at the…situation, and really mad at the scammer. I’m over it…ish. Last night’s solution was a mix of my amazing abilities with avoidance techniques, and writing. I dove in and wrote. For tonight, however, I dove into the unknown. I decided to learn how to do something…. Today I decided I would take the advice of my good friend, ‘Kel’ and my old friend, T. H. White and learn something…
“The best thing for being sad,” replied Merlin, beginning to puff and blow, “is to learn something. That’s the only thing that never fails. You may grow old and trembling in your anatomies, you may lie awake at night listening to the disorder of your veins, you may miss your only love, you may see the world about you devastated by evil lunatics, or know your honour trampled in the sewers of baser minds. There is only one thing for it then — to learn. Learn why the world wags and what wags it. That is the only thing which the mind can never exhaust, never alienate, never be tortured by, never fear or distrust, and never dream of regretting. Learning is the only thing for you. Look what a lot of things there are to learn.” ~ T. H. White – The Once and Future King
I love that quote, and the message – it is true, for sadness and for anger. So, I decided to figure out how to add snippets of music to my blog. After all, in it’s inception – and Kel’s first look, I had referenced a few songs (See Side bar “The Best Ever… Today” on the blog page – and the Blog ‘Inspiration.’). First, I had to ‘learn’ how to create the snippets in the first place (I used a product called Audacity). That was a little weird, but after I figured it out – it wasn’t too bad (my cuts are a tad rough but, hey – it’s my first go!) Then I had to look into how to get them on my site. Not only did I get the audio files where I wanted them, but I got it done on the first try. Yay me!
The ploy worked, learning got me out of my own head…at least for now. And, bonus – I will now occasionally be able to create small samples of the music I love, and share – as reasonably as possible – what it is about it that inspires me, makes me smile, laugh, cry – or even play air-drums…badly.
P. S. – I know I can link to my other pages. I chose not to. – thanks for reading!
P.P.S – I’ll save the rage against the scammers for another time, when I am more calm.
