The following is in no way a complete list, but it is a legitimate and sincere list of women who have inspired me or lifted me when it was most needed. Feel free to add to the list if you notice or feel anyone’s missing. Happy International Women’s Day!

Carol King
Heart
Tracy Chapman
Natalie Merchant
Loretta Lynn
Patsy Cline
Ella Fitzgerald
Connie Francis
For being there when I didn’t know I needed her; for driving me crazy; for re-discovering her painting skills; and for occasional ass-kickery:

Great tribute, especially to your mom! I love Maya Angelou too, for her “contribution to my brain and the order of my thoughts” (I love that phrase and just wanna get to use it at least once! 😉 )

Thank you, I’m glad you liked it. I finally read “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” last year, and I’ve enjoyed her poetry for a long time.

I’m sad to say I’ve read only the first few pages of that book, but it’s been on my TBR list for years! I also enjoy her poetry. For some reason, the first stanza of “When I think about myself” has stuck with me since I first read it.

When you can, set time aside, it’s worth it. I love that poem, and also ‘Still I Rise’.

Thank you, Linda! Yes, I’ll try to make time for it, and I’ll check out Still I Rise, too.
